A trip on the Ghan is one of Australia's
great rail travels, leading from Adelaide through Port Augusta and Tarcoola
up to Alice Springs, where it ends. The trains name remembers the Afghan
cameleers who had managed transport in Central Australia before the days
of the railway.
Between Adelaide and Tarcoola tracks are shared with
the Indian-Pacific running from Sydney to Perth .
Both trains are now operated by Great Southern
Railways (GSR).
